Aged 3-5 years

In the pre-school we focus on preparing the children for their transition into primary school, which we know is a big and important step for all of our families. For example, we encourage the children to serve themselves their meals, use the bathroom independently and dress themselves for the garden. Encouraging this independence teaches the children the necessary skills whilst building their confidence, but of course there are always staff on hand to help when needed. In the pre-school we introduce phonics into our literacy activities and continue to make maths a fun subject with resources that are accessible throughout the room at all times.

As with all rooms in the nursery, the pre-school is laid out to support the children’s learning across the seven areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We have accessible art resources, a role play area, activity tables and a cosy reading corner. Most toys and resources are within the children’s reach at all times, enabling them to lead their own learning. Our pre-school room leads directly out to the garden space, where the older children spend at least two hours every day.
